Belgrade Book Fair (Beogradski sajam knjiga) is one of the oldest and most important literary events in the Balkan region.·
It consist primarily of the presentation of domestic and foreign book production and buying and selling of copyrights. Publishers, booksellers, authors and many others have an opportunity to make contacts, exchange experiences, do business and achieve cultural cooperation among other things.
When focusing on every day book lovers, we should stress out that the Book Fair is the most visited cultural event in Serbia. In 2010, there were around 143,000 visitors who were able to find at one place rare or wanted books at special prices but also meet favorite authors and discover the new ones, attending one of many programs (conferences, round table conferences, meetings with authors, public discussion panels, workshops etc.). Taking place every autumn in the Balkan’s premier publishing and cultural capital, it is a unique opportunity to hear from authors, enjoy the vibrant atmosphere and explore innovations shaping the publishing world of the future.
This year, the 56th International Belgrade Book Fair will be held between 23-30 of October. Since the Fair will last eight rather than the usual seven days, book lovers will have more time to browse new publications and meet with local and foreign authors.
The Guest of Honor for 2011 is the Portuguese language. In addition to an elaborate exhibition of books in Portuguese, visitors will be presented a large number of literary works translated from this language especially for this occasion. Moreover, many major contemporary authors from Portuguese-speaking countries have accepted the invitation to be the guests of this year's Belgrade Book Fair. In order to further motivate schoolchildren and their families, School Day and the Family Day are getting organized once again.
Ticket price for the International Book Fair is 150 dinars for group visits (20 people minimum), 250 dinars for individual visits (on the opening day, the price of individual tickets will be reduced to 100 dinars). On the Family day parents with children will be able to enter the fair for 600 dinars. The Parking price is 100 dinars per hour.
