Back You are here: Home Must see & Visit Belgrade Kalemegdan

Kalemegdan

Kalemegdan

Someone would say that all in roads in Belgrade lead to Kalemegdan fortress.

At the end of the fancy, 21st century Street – Knez Mihajlova you will be entering new history period where the people are calmer and the time is posing very slow.

Name is a combination of two Turkish words - Kale meaning field and Megdan meaning battle with the oldest parts dating back to the 1st century AD. Kalemegdan has the best spot in Belgrade, with location over looking the confluence of Sava and Danube rivers and the best view you will ever find.

We recommend not missing the view from the fortress, Messenger of Victory Monument, Monument to France, St. Petka chapel, Despot Stefan Tower, Zindan Gate, Clock Tower, Military Museum, The Zoo, Nebojsa Tower etc.

One thing is for sure. You can’t decide if you like or dislike Belgrade if you didn’t take a stroll through the Kalemegdan’s up city, little city and down city.
