Park of Friendship (Park prijateljstva)

Park of Friendship, called also the Peace Park is locate in the place where the Danube’ s branch flows into the Sava River in the New Belgrade part of the town.

The First Conference of Heads of State or Government of Non – Aligned Countries was the reason for the construction of the park in 1961. Park is located on the area of 14 hectares where the most famous part is the central part of the park - Peace Alley. During the Non-Aligned Conference in Belgrade in 1989, representatives of participating countries planted 26 platen trees. On this green complex, during the history, near two hundred of the most eminent statesmen of the world planted delicate birch, linden, maple or some other tree. Some of them are: Indira Gandhi, Richard Nixon, Olaf Palme, Queen Elizabeth II,  Gerald Ford, Leonid Brezhnev llyich, Hua Guo Feng, Margaret Thatcher, Konstantinos Karamanlis, Mohamed Hosni Mubarak, Fransois Mitteran and many others. The last one was a Romanian President Ion Iliescu, who planted 194th tree in 1991.

In addition to this greenery a flower sculpture of the sculptor Lidije Misic could be found in the center of Alley. To mark the anniversary of the NATO bombing of Serbia in 2000. the monument "eternal fire" was unveiled. It’s high 78 meters, which symbolizes the number of days of bombing.

The tradition of planting trees by visitors was continued so trees were planted by members of “Rolling Stone" before their 2007 concert in Belgrade.
