Pensions

When we are speaking about pension system in Serbia, you should know that there are three types of pension:

The obligatory state pension insurance, which functions on a pay-as-you-go principle. Contributions paid by the employer and employees to the state pension fund are disbursed in form of pensions to the current pensioners. In the Law, the following rights are stated:

  • in case of age - right to superannuation pension;
  • disability - right to disability pension;
  • death - survivor benefits and reimbursement of funeral expenses;
  • physical damage due to job accident or occupational disease
  • right to compensation for the damage and in case of the need for care and help
  • right to compensation for help and care of other person.

Today an average pension (old-age) benefit amounts to around 240 euros.

Supplementary compulsory pension insurance on the basis of individual capitalized savings, which represents a system in which an employer is bound to allocate for all employees a certain percentage from the salaries to their personal accounts in the private pension funds. As a result, employees gain right to two pensions in the future, state and private.

Voluntary pension insurance provides opportunity to all citizens, both employed and unemployed to secure additional pension in the future by paying additional pension contributions to personal accounts in voluntary pension fund. Average monthly amount of contributions paid by those citizens in voluntary pension insurance funds is around 25 euros.

The age limit for pension is increased to 65 years. Due to situation investing in voluntary pension fund can be one of the most important decisions today for securing the satisfactory income in the future and preserving and improving the standard of living after retirement.
